There's a great deal to love about the grassroots Occupy Wall Street movement, but I should also point out a few things that have led to its downfall. I first became aware that there was large scale manipulation of OWS, from behind-the-scenes, when I came across some revealing audio on Youtube. This is the first clip in today's episode. One of the voices is Thorin Caristo, a guy who inserted himself into the OWS Media Team. He was also involved with livestream channel Global Revolution (GlobalRev). You'll hear in the audio how he and another shill named Aaron Minter (aka Aaron Black) were getting secret money to steer the energies of OWS.
As you can see in the accompanying photo, Aaron Minter (now going by Aaron Smith) was still representing OWS in Bill DeBlasio's mayoral campaign. The sign he's standing in front of made me laugh out loud, because he and Thorin were caught red-handed taking secret money in the past.
I wrote about Minter and his work as a Leftist operative in several articles last year (see here, here, and here), but I will be reviewing this info again in upcoming episodes. It's a real tragedy how "astroturfing" of Occupy Wall Street has become so widespread. Some folks have even given up on our original ideals, or turned a blind eye to the corruption. This sort of behavior should be called out in public. Others must know the truth.
The last 20 minutes of this episode consists of the "Chinese Debt Man" jam, a drum circle session that was filmed by one of the street performers at the Park. I'll upload the second half next time. Below, you can download all the extant General Assembly transcripts from October 2011, enjoy!
After that, we have some footage and pics from the 2011 Halloween parade, in which the Occupy drum circle led a mass of costumed protesters. I believe the drummers in attendance were Humo Duarte, Saeed R.B., John Eustor, Juan Carlos, and myself. The last 20 minutes features the rest of the footage from our drum circle breakdance party, in late October. I spoke a little about these two events in a previous episode.
Below, you can read a Daily News piece from October 30th which features me in the main picture. Notice that this was written DAYS after the drummers went to the General Assembly to work things out, yet the article continues to portray the drum circle area as "stragglers" and the East side of the park as "dedicated participants." I can assure you that almost everyone living at the protests was a dedicated participant. It was not easy living out in the open for 2 months. The folks at the camp had a sense of solidarity, because we were all going through this ordeal. The Daily News article below is a great example of divide and conquer tactics employed throughout history to shut down grassroots movements.
